Pastor Wayne Gillespie has faithfully served congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for 28 years.
Pastor Wayne is a native of Western Pennsylvania. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University and was ordained as a minister after earning his Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Ministry has taken Pastor Wayne in many interesting directions. He’s served churches of many different sizes and has actively participated in several ministries that were built to span the differences between denominations. He’s served as a part-time chaplain at several local psychiatric hospitals, and has actively participated in the ongoing ministry of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod by serving on the Ecumenical Relations and Church in Society committees. Pastor Wayne is passionately committed to the safety of children who participate in church activities, and he has been a strong advocate for the adoption of “Safe Child Policies” in the congregations that he’s served. Pastor Wayne’s also deeply aware of the significant challenges that congregations are facing in the 21st Century, and he serves as the Founder and Executive Director of the Kairos Institute for Mission Redevelopment – a ministry that’s committed to the task of helping churches, of all sizes, to be both missional and sustainable.
Pastor Wayne is an avid bicyclist who enjoys spending much of his free time cycling on the Great Allegheny Passage with his wife, Laurel. He enjoys spending time with family members in Pittsburgh, and always looks forward to sharing special moments with his family and quickly-growing granddaughter in North Carolina. Pastor Wayne also enjoys writing piano and organ music, playing his banjo and guitar, reading, and discovering new family connections through genealogical research.
